Why audience fit matters more than reach

A big audience that doesn't need a product is worth less than a smaller one that does.

Influencer marketing is often judged by reach: how many people will see the post. But reach only tells you how many people were shown something, not how many of them could actually use it.

Audience fit asks a different question. Who is watching this creator and what problems do they have? If a product solves one of those problems, a recommendation can feel useful instead of interruptive.

That's why a creator with a focused audience can be more valuable to a brand than a bigger channel with a general one. A freelancer watching a video about organizing their week is already thinking about how they work. A tool that helps with that fits naturally into the conversation.

Fit also protects the creator. Audiences notice when a recommendation doesn't match the content they follow. Every partnership that doesn't make sense costs a little trust, and trust is what makes a creator's recommendations worth anything at all.

For brands, the takeaway is simple: choose creators whose audience has the problem your product solves. For creators, it's the same rule from the other side: say yes to products that make sense for the people who watch you.
